On Wednesday, August 19 at noon, Wellness Wednesday returned to BLU after our summer break, and it was wonderful to see familiar faces, welcome new ones, and gather as a community again.
For our first event of the season, "Natural Ways to Boost Your Immune System", we also welcomed Dr. Camille McDonald-Toussaint to the BLU team.
Her topic couldn't have come at a better time. As back-to-school routines begin and children and grandchildren bring home their share of seasonal bugs, Dr. Camille shared practical, evidence-based ways to support the immune system through everyday choices.
And the biggest takeaway? You don't need to overhaul your life to support your immune health. Start small and stay consistent.
• Eat more plants. Add more color to your plate with foods like spinach, broccoli, berries, citrus, and garlic. Variety helps provide the nutrients your body needs to function at its best.
• Add ginger and green tea. Add fresh ginger to tea, smoothies, dressings, and meals, and add a cup of green tea to your daily routine.
• Protect your sleep. Aim for 7–9 hours each night. Consistent, quality sleep plays an important role in healthy immune function and overall well-being.
• Move every day. It doesn't have to be an intense workout. Walk, strength train, stretch, or choose movement you enjoy and can maintain consistently.
• Think food first, supplements second. Build your foundation with a balanced, nutrient-rich diet. If you're concerned about a deficiency, speak with the BLU Medical team about whether testing or supplementation may be right for you.
The goal isn't perfection. Choose one habit you can start today: more greens, a cup of ginger tea, a daily walk, or an earlier bedtime and build from there.
We put some of those ideas into practice during Wellness Wednesday, too.
Guests enjoyed our peanut butter bites and sampled a special immunity smoothie from the BLU Café, packed with ingredients selected to complement an immune-supportive routine.
Loved it? You're in luck. The smoothie will be available at the BLU Café throughout the month.
While you're there, you can also pick up Björn's Colorado Honey® Propolis, a bee-derived product made from tree and plant resins and traditionally used to support immune health, particularly during cold and flu season.
As Dr. Jessica Chen shares: “We incorporate it into our daily routine to support immune health, and during cold and flu season, we reinforce with double propolis.”
Members interested in additional nutritional support can also ask the BLU Medical team about the Immunity Blend → 1 AFR, featuring Vitamin C, B-complex via Olympia Vita-Complex, and Zinc Sulfate.
The Medical team can help determine whether this option is appropriate for your individual health and wellness goals.
This was just the beginning. Wellness Wednesday will now take place once a month at BLU, bringing our community together to explore timely health and longevity topics and, most importantly, turn what we learn into practical actions for everyday life.
And wellness is better when it's shared: BLU members are welcome to invite guests to join them.
Keep an eye out for our next Wellness Wednesday. We can't wait to see you there.
