Our latest Wellness Wednesday brought together more than 16 engaged guests for an insightful session led by Seth Jeremy Marquit, M.D., M.P.H., DipABLM, on a topic that has the power to change how we approach our health: Signals, Signs, and Symptoms - How The Body Whispers Before It Screams.

The conversation centered on one powerful truth: Modern disease does not appear suddenly. It develops quietly over the years. Understanding the difference between signals, signs, and symptoms can be the difference between proactive health and reactive care.

Signals: The Early Whisper

Signals are the earliest indicators that something in the body may be shifting. They are often silent and subtle, not something you “feel,” but something that can be detected through wearable technology, advanced lab testing, or biometric trends.

- Changes in heart rate variability.
- Elevated fasting insulin.
- Sleep pattern disruptions.
- Mild inflammatory markers.

Signals give you time. They are the body’s early whisper, an opportunity to intervene before dysfunction progresses.

Signs: The Measurable Shift

Signs are changes your clinician can measure.

- Elevated blood pressure.
- Abnormal cholesterol levels.
- Increased waist circumference.
- Prediabetes on lab work.

Signs narrow the window. At this stage, dysfunction is more established, but there is still a meaningful opportunity for reversal with targeted intervention.

Symptoms: The Late Alarm

Symptoms are what most people wait for.

- Fatigue
- Chest pain
- Joint pain
- Brain fog
- Shortness of breath

Symptoms are late. By the time symptoms appear, disease processes have often been developing silently for years. Waiting for symptoms means missing the earlier, more manageable stages of intervention.

The BLU Approach

Dr. Marquit emphasized that the traditional model of care often reacts to symptoms. At BLU, we focus on identifying signals. When you understand how disease develops over time, you realize prevention is not passive; it is proactive, data-driven, and intentional. Our model centers on detecting and responding to signals before they become signs, and certainly before they become symptoms. That includes:

  • Wearable data to track real-time physiological trends
  • Advanced labs to uncover early metabolic and inflammatory changes
  • Personalized lifestyle interventions tailored to each individual

This approach empowers our members to extend not just lifespan, but healthspan.

"Choose your hard, for example, working out is hard, but so is not being able to get up because you let your body get weak."

An Engaged and Interactive Afternoon

The room was filled with thoughtful questions, curiosity, and meaningful discussion. Attendees asked how to interpret wearable data, when to begin advanced lab testing, and how lifestyle shifts can truly reverse early dysfunction.

To close the afternoon, we hosted an interactive activity that brought the concepts to life. Guests were given red, yellow, and green cards and asked to identify whether different scenarios represented a signal, a sign, or a symptom of the body.

The room lit up with engagement, laughter, and learning, a powerful reminder that education is most impactful when it’s experiential.
