82 and Stronger: Bob’s Journey to Better Healthspan

For Robert “Bob” Schwartz, age is not a reason to slow down; it is a reason to keep improving.
At 82 years old, Bob has discovered that meaningful health breakthroughs are possible at any stage of life. His journey with fitness, nutrition, and longevity is a powerful reminder that the goal is not simply to live longer, but to live stronger, healthier, and more actively for as long as possible.
Before focusing on longevity, Bob never set foot inside a gym until he was in his 60s. After experiencing decades of chronic back issues, he moved to Florida and began taking a core class at his local fitness center. Starting slowly, he quickly noticed something remarkable: his back spasms disappeared, and he began feeling stronger.
That experience changed his perspective on exercise and inspired him to make fitness a permanent part of his lifestyle.
A New Perspective on Longevity
Bob’s interest in optimizing his health deepened after hearing Drs. Gordon and Jessica Chen speak about healthy longevity.
“I’m not interested in longevity just to spend my last years in a rocker in front of a TV set,” Bob shared. “But possibly extending my active lifestyle greatly appealed to me.”
That philosophy perfectly aligned with BLU’s goal of helping individuals take a proactive approach to their health so they can continue doing the things they love.
Small Changes. Meaningful Results.
Before joining BLU, Bob already considered himself health-conscious. He watched his weight, practiced moderation, and focused on making healthier food choices. However, his experience at BLU helped him recognize opportunities to further optimize his nutrition, exercise, recovery, and daily habits.
Through personalized guidance and advanced assessments, Bob made several adjustments that fit naturally into his lifestyle. He refined his nutrition, transitioning toward a primarily vegetarian diet with occasional fish, significantly reduced dairy, and became more aware of how his food choices impacted his body.
He also incorporated new training strategies, including more intentional Zone 2 cardio training and high-intensity interval training (HIIT).
Breaking Through at 82
One of Bob’s most exciting breakthroughs was his improvement in VO2 Max, a key measure of cardiovascular fitness and indicator of longevity. After adjusting his walking routine and incorporating new training
approaches, Bob increased his VO2 Max by 5.4 points over six months.
“I felt that I was already in pretty good shape, at least for my age,” Bob shared. “But to increase my VO2 Max in six months really pleased me.”
He also saw a significant improvement in his blood pressure, with his average readings decreasing by approximately 15 points.
Beyond the numbers, Bob was surprised by how achievable the changes felt.
“I can’t say which change made the biggest impact because I made several diet and exercise changes at the same time,” he said. “All I know is that none of the changes felt like a sacrifice. They were easy for me to do and continue indefinitely.”
Technology Meets Personal Accountability
For Bob, BLU’s combination of advanced technology, education, and personalized guidance helped him better understand his body and make informed decisions.
He found value in tracking his sleep with an Oura Ring, monitoring his glucose response, and learning how small adjustments, such as changing the order in which he ate certain foods, could impact his health.
“The glucose monitor was an eye-opener,” Bob explained. “I found the information so informative.”
It’s Never Too Late to Improve
His journey proves that progress does not have an expiration date.
“If you enjoy your life, why would you not want to extend it by making a few relatively easy changes?”
Today, Bob continues to challenge himself, pursue new goals, and look for opportunities to improve year after year.
His biggest health goal moving forward? “To keep improving.”
For Bob, BLU has been more than a health program; it has been a catalyst for continued growth, strength, purpose, and vitality – “A Life Changer, and hopefully, extender.”
