On September 3, BLU by ThriveWell® joined Habitat for Humanity of Broward County and members of the South Florida community for a meaningful milestone: the groundbreaking of Moss Estates at Oakland Park, a new Habitat community that will soon become home to 10 families.
Named in honor of longtime donors Bob and Sandra Moss, Moss Estates will feature ten thoughtfully designed four-bedroom, two-bath homes, each spanning approximately 1,500 square feet and including a two-car garage. But beyond the homes themselves, this community represents something much greater: stability, opportunity, hope, and the chance for families to build lasting memories in a place they can call their own.
For BLU, being part of moments like this is about more than attending an event. It is about showing up for the community we call home.
BLU’s Marketing & Communications Director, Melissa Garcia Villa, attended the groundbreaking alongside Margo Petersen, BLU’s Business Development representative, as they connected with members of the local community and introduced Margo to the people and organizations making an impact across South Florida. BLU Members were also present, making the morning an especially meaningful reminder of the power of coming together around a shared purpose.
The housing affordability crisis continues to impact families throughout South Florida, where finding a safe, stable, and affordable home can feel increasingly out of reach. Habitat Broward offers a path forward through homeownership, partnership, and what they call “sweat equity.” Future homeowners contribute hundreds of hours working alongside volunteers to help build their homes and strengthen their communities.
During the groundbreaking, one future homeowner shared her story and spoke about the excitement of one day moving into her new home with her son. As a single mother, the opportunity represents far more than a new address. It represents a foundation for her family’s future. It was a powerful moment and one that captured what community is truly about.
Habitat Broward’s mission is to build homes, communities, and hope. Moss Estates is the first chapter in the stories of 10 families, and the groundbreaking marked the beginning of a journey that will bring those stories to life.
For BLU, we believe that when we surround ourselves with the right community, we thrive. That means celebrating together, supporting one another, and extending our impact beyond our own walls.
And this is only the beginning.
Following the groundbreaking, construction for Moss Estates will officially get underway, with BLU participating in the 2026 Seminole Hard Rock Women Build on October 23. BLU will work alongside future homeowners and fellow community volunteers to help turn these plans into homes.
We are grateful to Habitat for Humanity of Broward County, the Moss family, the future homeowners, and everyone who continues to invest their time, resources, and heart into building a stronger South Florida.
Because sometimes, building a healthier community starts with simply showing up, and building together.
